The Challenge: Echo Dampening Without Compromising Grand Aesthetics
Luxury hotel lobbies are designed to create a breathtaking first impression, often opting for open-concept layouts with high-soaring ceilings, marble floors, and expansive glass curtain walls. However, this architectural grandeur presents a massive acoustic liability:
The “Train Station” Acoustic Effect: Sound waves from dragging luggage, ambient chatter, and background piano music bounce uncontrollably off the hard marble floors and glass. This creates a noisy, chaotic environment that shatters the hotel’s sense of exclusivity and calm.
The Aesthetic Rejection of Industrial Panels: The design directors fiercely rejected standard rectangular sound panels or fabric wrap tracks, stating they looked too “corporate” or “industrial” for a five-star luxury environment.
Complex Architectural Geometry: The acoustic treatment needed to curve gracefully around a massive, double-height arched feature wall behind the main reception desk and flow seamlessly into the elevator concierge corridor.
The Solution: Sculptural Modular PET Art Tapestry
HENGJIU Felt collaborated with the hotel’s lead hospitality interior firm to craft a customized, modular 3D geometric wall art installation that functions as a high-performance acoustic absorber.
Multi-Thickness Diffusion Pattern: Instead of a flat surface, we utilized a combination of 9mm, 12mm, and 24mm custom CNC-cut triangular and hexagonal tiles. This varying depth created a striking 3D topographical wave that naturally diffuses high-frequency reflections while capturing a superb 0.85 NRC across the mid-frequency human speech band.
Artisanal Luxury Finish: To meet the elite hospitality standards, the PET panels were post-processed with a premium, tactile felt texture, and selectively accented with bespoke metallic Champagne Gold hot-stamped fibers. It looks like a high-end, hand-crafted architectural sculpture, completely concealing its acoustic purpose.
Eco-Luxury and Public Safety: The installation complied with strict commercial hospitality regulations, carrying an ASTM E84 Class A fire rating and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certification, guaranteeing no toxic emissions or chemical odors in the public breathing zone.
